Sorting laundry is something that you have to do before washing clothing, unless you enjoy having mysterious looking clothing coming out of the wash. When you place laundry in to get clean and it comes out looking dingy, pink and your reds are no longer red, that just means you have to pre- sort your clothing. Your goal is to have everything come out looking clean and the same colors they were before being washed.
What kind of sorting?
You will need to sort your laundry into respective piles. You will either want to plan on washing the clothing on one day of the week designated as wash day, or every day if you have a large family. Then you will want to place similar items in certain piles. Items that will be bleached such as white clothing or white towels will be put into their respective piles.
Towels
Towels must be washed on their own. White towels should be washed with just white towels in bleach every so often to ensure their white color. Washing them in bleach will also help keep the towels clean and they will stay sparkling white, not a dingy- gray kind of white when you do not bleach them. Therefore, colorful towels will be placed into one sorted pile, while white towels will be placed into another.
You may also want to place large beach towels and larger towels into one presorted pile for a wash load because larger towels cause the washing machine to throw the load. Therefore, your washer may shake or “walk” on the floor due to an uneven load.
Sheets
Sheets, and pillow covers should be washed on HOT once a week. Therefore, you will need to place sheets in a pile to be washed in one load, unless you have a large family.
Larger items
Blankets, throw rugs and comforters will be placed into another pile. Blankets and comforters should be washed with just other like items. Throw rugs should also be washed only with other throw rugs.
